Flax oil is an excellent and primary source of alpha-linolenic acid, an Omega 3 oil, which is a precursor to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) that leads to prostaglandin 3 series formation. Prostaglandins of the 3 series are the primary end products of Omega 3 oil supplementation and responsible for the majority of the desirable effects mentioned above. Deep-sea fish oils are high in EPA and DHA and further contribute to the benefits of the Omega 3 oil.

Borage seed oil is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an Omega 6 fatty acid, generally converted to 1 series prostaglandins. Prostaglandins of the 1 series, like the 3 series are also responsible for the beneficial effects mentioned. Borage seed oil also contains oleic acid, an Omega 9 fatty acid that promotes the anti-inflammatory pathways for GLA.
